WestCycle is pleased to announce that detailed mountain bike trail planning is set to commence at three sites in Margaret River, Wellington and Pemberton.

Identified as priorities for development by the emerging South West Mountain Bike Master Plan, consultant Common Ground Trails will work with the local mountain bike communities, land managers and other key stakeholders to develop frameworks to guide and inform trail design and construction in the sites.

This is another important and exciting step towards delivering high quality sustainable trails on the ground in the South West.

This project is supported by Lotterywest Grants and the Department of Parks and Wildlife, Western Australia, the Department of Sport and Recreation and WAMBA.

WestCycle is pleased to announce that trail planning consultant Common Ground Trails has been appointed to undertake mountain bike master planning in the Perth Metropolitan and Peel regions.

The Perth and Peel Mountain Bike Master Plan will guide the development of an exciting network of high quality sustainable mountain bike trails in the two regions.

Common Ground Trails was selected following a competitive tender process on the basis of their strong mountain biking background and extensive local, regional and international experience.

This project has been made possible by a $25,000 contribution from the Department of Parks and Wildlife and the award of two $25,000 grants by Lotterywest.

Common Ground Trails will now work closely with WestCycle and a Steering Committee of representatives from the Department of Parks and Wildlife, the Department of Sport and Recreation, local government, WAMBA and the wider mountain bike community.

Congratulations to the following who have been selected for scholarships to attend the Australian Mountain Bike Summit:

  • Dave Willlcox - Margaret River Off Road Cycling Association - Mrorca
  • Dave Marshall - Albany Mountain Bike Club
  • John Wallace - Collie Mtb Club
  • Shane Williams - Kalamunda Mountain Bike Collective

The standard of applicants was very high. Any of those who applied would have been worthy recipients. However we had to choose four. This selection was made by a panel comprising representatives from WAMBA, WestCycle, Department of Sport and Recreation and Department of Parks and Wildlife. Factors considered included previous volunteer contribution (paid work not considered), future benefit to clubs/regions represented and a geographical spread of representatives.

WAMBA would like to thank Steve Bennett of DSR who made this grant possible.

We look forward to hearing all about this exciting summit from those attending.
